History of Downtown

History & Background

Downtown Darien was born (as Darien Depot) on Christmas Day 1848, when the first regularly scheduled New York and New Haven Railroad passenger train pulled into the brand-new Darien Station. The station was located on the west side of the track, just a stone’s throw south of where the railroad crossed the Connecticut Turnpike (today’s Post Road).
