Saturday, May 2, 2026 | 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Museum of Darien | 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Mather Homestead | All day Highland Farm Free Admission Celebrate 250 years of Middlesex Parish history with a day of immersive colonial life demonstrations at Museum of Darien. Members of the Fifth Connecticut Regiment, dressed in authentic period attire, will showcase the daily life of a colonial soldier and artisan skills.
“War Comes to Middlesex” Fundraiser
Step into the intrigue of the Revolutionary War at this year's spirited fundraiser and silent auction. Are you are rebel or a redcoat? The museum transforms into a lively colonial tavern brimming with music, games, and the energy of a community caught in the throes of war within our War Comes to Middlesex Exhibit.
Revolutionary Road Trip!
Bring your friends and family for a day of discovery during Connecticut Museum Open House Day. Tour the War Comes to Middlesex exhibition, explore the 1736 Colonial Saltbox house with expert guides, and indulge in a taste of history with traditional colonial hot chocolate served by The Pewter Pot Chocolatier. Children will also enjoy a seed planting project with members of the Darien Library and Darien Garden club, taking home a sample of historic, heirloom herbs found in the museum’s memorial garden.

Early American Planter Workshop
Don your gardening gloves and learn a thing or two about early American Gardens. This twice sold out workshop is led by local Darien Mom and garden specialist, Melissa Kelley. We will create our own living indoor gardens complete with soil, flowers, plants, and tips for long living planters!

“History Tunes & Tiny Tales” A Children’s Music Program at the Museum of Darien
History Tunes & Tiny Tales” is a vibrant new music program designed for children ages 0–4 and their caregivers, launching this fall at the Museum of Darien. Led by acclaimed vocalist and educator Christi John Bye, this weekly program blends music, rhythm, and imaginative play to introduce young learners to key historical themes in an age-appropriate and joyful format.
MoD’s Annual Meeting & Lecture
Join us for a fascinating lecture, "A Spark in Time, New England Blacksmithing," with a demonstration featuring blacksmith Chip Sowalski from Mystic Seaport Museum. The lecture will be preceded by a plaque presentation to commemorate Darien’s 18th Century Blacksmith Shop Foundation.
CT Open House
Free event for all ages Bring a friend and witness all we have to offer those who enjoy history. You’ll take a step back in time as you tour our current costume exhibit, Darien Dresses Up! and walk through our 1736 Colonial Salt Box house with our educators and curators. Watch a Weaver demonstrate how to spin wool into yarn on our newly refurbished Great Wheel and make sure to save time to enjoy our garden inspired craft project designed for all ages.
