    Earlier this week, the Museum of Darien held its A Earlier this week, the Museum of Darien held its Annual Meeting. So many wonderful things have been accomplished this year, even in the midst of so many challenges. With a new image and website, thanks to our wonderful supporters, we improved our visitor experience, shared the replica whaleboat with the town, received artifact donations, and are ready to welcome the new year with new programming and offerings. Become a member of the museum or gift a membership to learn and be part of our town's history!

The Museum of Darien's commemorative book, Darien 1820 — New Town, New Times by Ken Reiss, focuses on life in town during the year 1820, when Darien gained independence from Stamford and Norwalk.

Pick up a copy at the Museum of Darien, 45 Old Kings Highway North, or at Barrett Bookstore, 6 Corbin Drive.
    Preparing for winter in 1800’s Darien: “To fin Preparing for winter in 1800’s Darien: “To finish fall work, a supply of wood for the winter had to be cut and carted home. Most farmers owned wood lots a mile or more from their houses, so it was no small job to cut and cart home eight or ten cart loads of half a cord each, and then saw it and split it, and for the boy to carry it into the woodshed and pile it up as nicely as possible.” Excerpt from the book Darien, 1820 by Ken Reiss. 

The book is available at Barrett Bookstore and makes a great holiday gift! @barrettbookstore_
